Saturday, December 3, 2011 - 8 p.m.
The Basilica of St. Josaphat, Milwaukee
The Christmas season is not complete without Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and we are delighted to bring you excerpts from this holiday classic,
combined with fiery ballet music from Spanish composer Manuel de Falla.
The CCO will also collaborate with the Milwaukee High School of the Arts chorus and perform composer Christopher Tin’s Grammy-award-winning
song cycle, Calling All Dawns. The 12 songs are sung in 12 languages, with lyrics from sources sacred and secular: Japanese haiku, Maori proverbs, the Torah, the Bhagavad Gita and many more. Each song flows seamlessly into the next, with the piece ending on the same chord that it opened with − representing the fluid, cyclical nature of the universe. It carries a message of unity: regardless of race, culture and religious belief, we are all connected through our common human experience.
